Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine. It is celebrated all over the world, but, it is not a public holiday. It was first associated with romantic love during the High Middle Ages. Throughout the ages, it has evolved into an occasion during which lovers express their love by presenting flowers, chocolates and greeting cards. The day is symbolized by heart-shaped outlines, doves and winged cupids. This beautiful day of love is also linked with a very gruesome event - the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre of the year 1929. This gruesome event occurred at Chicago, United States. During this, 7 people died and numerous people, including young couples, celebrating love were injured.

During this year, Valentine’s Day, the 14th of February falls on Tuesday. The commercialization of Valentine’s Day can be traced back to 1415, when Charles, the Duke of Orleans, sent the first ever recorded love note to his ‘very gentle Valentine’. The note stated that he was ‘already sick in love’. During the mid-18th century, Hamlet had made a promise to his Valentine – by Valentine’s Day morning, he would ‘maid at your window’. Now, sharing of Valentine’s Day letters and cards have become all over England. In 1913, the first ever Valentine’s Day card was created by Hallmark. Tips on writing a Valentine’s Day Card and some quotes

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you are procrastinating, then you need to stop immediately and find something special for your significant other. If you are thinking of making a Valentine’s Day card on your own, here are some tips that you need to remember while you are writing your card –

  • Write about him/her, not your feelings for them – At time, individuals get lost in starting every sentence with the letter ‘I’. Something like ‘I am so happy…’ or ‘I love when you…’. Sometimes, it’s just about writing what makes them great that gets the deal going.
  •
  • Don’t go for over-the-top romanticism – If it isn’t your style, then don’t do it. The tone of the note needs to be in tune with the stage of your relationship. So, if there are a lot of jokes shared between you guys, then be funny. In simple words, even though it is a love letter, it doesn’t have to be quite serious.
  •
  • Read old e-mails – Before you start writing, re-read old emails and messages between you guys. It might be hard sometimes, to come up with really heartfelt messages. So, just go through old message between you guys. This will help you create a sincere and spontaneous tone for your card.
  •
  • Listen to music – Trust me, this works. Play a few of the love songs that you like. This will help you get into the mood and the right mindset.
  •
  • Keep it short – Just like a simple poem, the note can be just 2 lines, however, it will still be filled with meaning. Don’t have the urge to fill up the whole card.

These are some tips to compose a beautiful card. Some of the best quotes which you can include in the card, if it is for your girlfriend are –

  • I can only hope that I make you as half as happy as you make me. My love for you is infinite. Happy Valentine's day to the most wonderful woman I've ever met.
  •
  • I was always too macho and proud to admit that I too needed a sweet lady like you by my side. I honestly thank God, every day that I found you! Happy Valentine's Day to my beautiful angel!
